Family Pizza Soup

      Title: Family Pizza Soup

      Yield: 6 servings
 
      6    Slices French bread                 3 c  Italian plum or whole
      1 lb Ground beef                              Tomatoes, cut up, undrained
      1 md Onion, sliced                      14 oz Jar, pizza sauce
      1    Garlic clove, finely chopped        4 oz Can mushrooms
    1/4 t  Fennel seed                         3 oz Low-moisture part-skim
    1/4 t  Oregano                                  Mozzarella cheese, halved
      1 c  Water                          
 
  Heat oven to 325 degrees.  Trim slices of French bread to fit inside 2-cup
  ovenproof soup bowls.  Place bread on ungreased cookie sheet.  Bake at 325
  for 20 to 25 minutes or until toasted.  Remove from oven; increase oven
  temperature to 425 degrees.
  
  Meanwhile, in large saucepan or Dutch oven brown ground beef with onion
  and garlic over medium heat; drain.  Add all remaining soup ingredients
  except cheese.  Bring to a boil.  Reduce heat; simmer 10 minutes.  Pour
  soup into ovenproof soup bowls; top each with slice of toasted French
  bread.  Place one cheese slice on each toast slice.  Place bowls on
  15X10X1-inch baking pan.  Bake at 425 degrees for 3 to 5 minutes or until
  cheese melts.  Serve immediately.
